About LuminArts

Sometime after graduating from California College of Arts and Crafts with a BFA in metalworking, I saw the movie Tron. Though I had only ever heard of HAL the computer in the movie 2001 A Space Odyssey during my college days, I wanted to know more. Today computers are a fact of life and I have been using them to create designs for nearly 30 years.

Our History

In 1985 I opened LuminArts in a warehouse loft in the then undeveloped Powell and  Hollis Street area of Emeryville, California. We worked in that space for nearly 15 years servicing a wide range of clients from IDG Books to The North Face and witnessed an amazing transformation from industrial warehouses and artist studios to trendy upscale loft district. The cowboy bar with sawdust on the floor across the street transformed overnight to a gourmet restaurant.

Moving to my current location in Bonny Doon, California in 2001, I realized a long time dream of living in the mountains of Santa Cruz. The natural beauty that surrounds me every day is an unending source of inspiration. The breathtaking beaches of the coast north of Santa Cruz, the colors of the Manzanita and the form and texture of the Madrone in the nature reserve only a short walk from my house energize my visual choices. To realize each client’s vision for their project in a way that reflects the best they have to offer is my skill and talent.

When I began working with Helena in 2001, our international Buddhist journal needed a serious redesign. Her ideas were so simple and elegant, they helped to express our message more clearly and beautifully than we imagined possible. mb61-cover-800
